What's your personal impression of MOP?


I'm just curious :3 From all the fan-fictions I've read, I feel like there are 2 very different views about their relationship.

One is the English MOP fics, where I feel Megatron is the more high and mightier figure, whom Optimus looks up to, and is intrigued by. The stories are more focused on Optimus' feelings and emotions, and portrayed Megatron as the captivating figure.

That's what I noted as really different to the Chinese and Japanese MOP fan-fics I'm used to. In these fan-fics, there was the really distinct, and stereotyped role of 'uke' and 'seme'. The uke captivates the seme, the seme actively pursues, yet the uke is more shy, and at first did not realise his own feelings -- either make excuses for the seme's actions. It usually forceful measures on the seme's side, or some miracle chance occurrences for the uke to finally realise him feelings and accept the seme's advances.

Such is pretty much the character outline for Optimus and Megatron. The Chinese TFS-MOP authors mostly love to write about the process leading up to the realisation of love, rarely ever do we write MOP as lovers from the very beginning (except in some comedy fics). I think that was much influenced by our culture... (in comparison very much demur, so the saying goes).


Very much influenced by the first few MOP fan-fics I had read, my impression of MOP is that Optimus seem to always win over Megatron in whatever they do. No matter how well planed Megatron's destructive plans were, he always played right into Optimus' hand. I think, even though Megatron is suppose to be the 'man' of the relationship, Optimus was the one most in control. Optimus seems to be the more mature person in the relationship. Sometimes he would give in to Megatron just for Megatron's best interest, because Optimus' qualities are his kindness and love for all sentient beings.

Megatron is the kind of guy who knows exactly what he wants and doesn't hesitate to pursue his goals, it's just he never quite got the method right. Whatever he chases always seem to move even further away... (you can just tell that lots of the Chinese MOP fan-fics don't have happy endings..T.T) Optimus, on the other hand, has a very strong sense of duty and always places his responsibilities above all else -- even his own life. And he is also some what... thick...or hesitant, when it comes to love. He always think Megatron's blunt gestures of love were some silly pranks...(and that Megatron must have been infected by a virus!), or deep down is in denial of his own feelings that he doesn't even realise. Maybe he is too proud, too responsible, all that make OP one difficult challenge for Megatron to conquer -- hence the endless battle XD --> One leader trying to make the other to be his own.

Frenzy: Why does Megatron always fight with Optimus Prime even though he obviously likes him? Why don't he just go and tell him?

Starscream: You little kids don't understand. People don't confess because they are afraid of being rejected. Being lead by the Lord of Spinsters, even sure win battles are turned into defeats! It's obvious that I should be the rightful leader of the Decepticons!

Megatron: What are you saying you idiot!!
How could I be afraid of confessing! He's just Optimus Prime, as soon as the confession comes out of my mouth, he'd be mine in no time!

Starscream: Oh really? *sly smile*

Megatron: Alright! I'll show you all see next time!!

Megatron: Op... Optimus, stop resisting me. Be mine tonight...!

Optimus: You are making this ridiculous joke again. You think I'd fall for that? If you have the time to speak this nonsense, why don't just release the hostages already!


Panel 4:

Megatron: The one and only confession I made this entire life was taken as a joke...... orz (symbol for dropping to floor) *tears*

Starscream: So I was saying it's obviously right that I should be the leader of the Decepticons instead...

Megatron: Shut up Starscream!!!
